Why Not?

Taking Today’s Talk Home:

On Sunday we discussed the four most prevalent reasons why people avoid being committed to a community of faith. The reasons are short and simple. The stories behind these reasons are not. These reasons can be deep seeded and difficult to unpack in one setting. The reasons we discussed on Sunday were:

  1. “I don’t get it.”
  2. “I don’t need it.”
  3. “I don’t want it.”
  4. “I don’t trust you.”

As we discussed these reasons we found ourselves come to the following conclusion: it’s difficult to ignore the validity, power and significance of community and doing life together.

R E A D / / T H I N K / / P R A Y

*Read 1 John 4:18.

**Think about the reasons people choose not to be a part of a faith community. Of the reasons we discussed today, what reasons could you identify with? Are those reasons legitimate?

***Pray that God will fill your mind and your heart with reminders of power, significance and validity of true community. Ask God to reveal ways that He would like for you to step out into faith and into community as we continue this study together.

Prayer Focus for the Week:

Dear God,

I recognize my need for a community of faith in my life.

I recognize that you have designed me specifically for community. Although I recognize that I need people in my life, it isn’t always easy for me to pursue relationships and community.

I want to do life together with others who believe in You and who will encourage me in my walk with You.

Father, surround me with people that are following You. God, I trust you to remove the fear in my heart and replace it with faith and hope. I trust You. I trust Your Word.

And I believe that these relationships will deepen and strengthen my relationship with You and with others.

I am ready, and I look forward to seeing You answer this prayer.

In Jesus’ Name…Amen.

Preparing for NEXT Sunday:

Next week we begin to look at the specific mentions of the phrase ‘One Another’ in the New Testament. Take time this week and review the list in the following Scriptures:

John 13:34-35, Romans 12:10, Romans 12:16, Romans 16:16, I Corinthians 12:25, II Corinthians 13:11-12, Galatians 5:13, Colossians 3:13, Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 4:32, Ephesians 5:19, Ephesians 5:21, I Thessalonians 5:13, I Thessalonians 5:15, Hebrews 3:13, Hebrews 10:24, James 5:16, I Peter 1:22, I Peter 4:9-10, I Peter 5:5, I John 3:23

Doing life together.

It’s a beautiful thought.

Let’s make it a reality.

Until next time…

Blessings,

Pastor Daniel
