Here’s what’s happening in June 2024!
Dear church,
On Sunday, we announced that I would be taking a few weeks as we anticipated the arrival of our baby girl, Naomi Rose. If you’d like, you can go back to Sunday’s Facebook livestream to get a few more details. As I prepare to be out of the office for a few weeks, let me share a few things.
First things first, we have a great lineup of Sunday mornings coming your way. On Sunday, June 2nd, Mike Kildal will be preaching for us. Mike and the entire Kildal family are dear friends to Libby and me, so much so that we consider them extended family. Mike will be preaching a message entitled ‘Priorities’ from the Old Testament book Haggai. Over the years, I've been grateful to Mike for his friendship and wisdom. He has been a pastor in our community for many years, and he currently serves as a chaplain at Mercy Medical in Roseburg.
On Sunday, June 9th, we are excited to welcome back Pastor David Van Wormer to First Christian Church. Many of you will remember that Pastor David served as our pastor for a few years up until 2015 and was such an important part of my life and my story. One of our goals this year is to have a few of our former pastors preach for us while we celebrate our 135th anniversary. Pastor David now serves as a hospice chaplain in Lane County and has served the local church in so many capacities over the years. He will be speaking from the Lord’s Prayer when he joins us in a few weeks.
Then, on Sunday, June 16th, we will celebrate Father’s Day! We will be presenting a gift and implementing special ways to honor dads as our honored guests. Pastor Darren will deliver the Sunday morning sermon, and our Kids Ministry will lead worship! It’s the Sunday immediately following our Scuba Vacation Bible School, and this will give them a great opportunity to share songs they’ve learned over the course of the week! Plus, on Sunday, we'll be praying over our team, which will head out to Ninos de Mexico, Mexico City, on a missions trip!
And finally, on Sunday, June 23rd, Mike Kildal will be back once again to preach for us. Libby and I plan to be in attendance on Sunday, June 23rd, as my first Sunday back, too! Mike will be preaching on ‘The Prevailing Church’ in honor of our church’s 135th anniversary.
It’s going to be an exciting month! Speaking of which, many of our church family have asked if we could use a meal during the first few weeks of having our baby girl. Thank you, church family, for all your prayers and support these last few months. Thank you also to our staff and elders in being so gracious with my paternity leave. We are looking forward to introducing you to our baby girl soon!
