2024 Election Prayer Guide
How do we pray for the elections?
First, rest in the promises of Scripture. As important as this election is to the future of our nation, our hope is not in elected officials. Our hope is in the living God, our Lord and Savior, King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Read these Scriptures and as you do, breathe a prayer of thanksgiving to God while you recognize that He is in control.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. ~ Titus 2:11-14 ESV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6 ESV
They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful. ~ Revelation 17:14 ESV
On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. ` Revelation 19:16 ESV
Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. ~ Psalm 146:3-5 NIV
This is what the Lord says: 'Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.' ~ Jeremiah 17:5-7 NIV
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. ~ Psalm 20:7 NIV
Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal. ~ Isaiah 26:4 NIV
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. ~ Hebrews 10:23 NIV
Use this prayer to stimulate you prayers for our nation and community today:
Gracious God,
We know You’re in control. You created everything, and nothing that happens takes You by surprise. You already know the outcome of every election, every race, every decision, and none of it will catch You off guard.
Even though we trust in that, we still come to You now because You hear us, love us, and always want the best for us. We’re thankful for all You’ve done in our country—guiding us through good times and hard times alike. Through wars, recessions, and even spiritual struggles, You’ve been with us every step of the way.
As our nation prepares for another election, we’re asking for Your hand to be on this country. These are difficult days, with so many spiritual battles around us, but we know the power of Jesus shines brighter than any darkness. Let Your light push back the evil at work in our land and protect us as a people.
We ask that You bless everyone who’s voting, giving them wisdom to make good choices. We also pray for the candidates running for office. Thank You for their willingness to serve. Be with those who win as they take on the responsibilities of leadership, and help those who don’t find new paths forward.
Above all, we pray for godly leaders—men and women who will seek Your guidance and make decisions based on Your truth. Help them stand for what’s right, not just what’s popular. We know that with Your help, we can preserve the values that make our country strong, especially the freedom to worship You openly.
Lord, we’re grateful no matter what happens, because our future is in Your hands. We pray Your will be done in our nation, just as it is in heaven. Give us the courage to keep standing firm in our faith, no matter the circumstances. Bless this country, and continue to guide us toward Your perfect plan.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

End your time with a prayer for yourself:
Heavenly Father,
As election season unfolds, I come before You asking that my heart, mind, and actions would align with Your will. Help me to remember that above all, I am called to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. ~ Mark 12:30 NIV
Guide my thoughts and behaviors so that in everything I do, I seek to honor You first and foremost. Whether in conversation, on social media, or in private moments, let my attitudes reflect the grace and humility You desire from me. Keep my focus on You, that I might glorify You in all my decisions and interactions.
Lord, as tensions rise and opinions divide, guard my heart against bitterness, anger, or fear. Your Word reminds me to "let my light shine before others"…In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:16 NIV
I want to be a reflection of Your peace, regardless of what is happening around me. Help me to be a person of prayer, not driven by anxiety, but trusting fully in Your sovereign plan. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Let my words and actions demonstrate faith, hope, and love, so that others may see Christ in me, even when our nation seems fractured and uncertain.
Finally, God, no matter the outcome of this election, I declare my trust in You. You are the one true King, and my hope is in Jesus Christ, the risen Savior. Help me to respond with grace and peace, knowing that the Lord reigns and that You are always in control. The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice. ~ Psalm 97:1 NIV
Strengthen my faith, so that my response will reflect my belief that You are working all things together for good. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. ~ Romans 8:28 NIV
May I be a beacon of Your love and a faithful witness to Your kingdom, in whatever comes next.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
